As the lacrosse season goes on at Brecksville Broadview Heights High School, the program’s players are proving that there’s more to lacrosse than the wins and losses. For many players, the sport offers personal growth, companionship, competition, and friendship.

Sophomore Chloe Kovak shares how much the team environment means to her. “I love the overall aspect of the team. It’s so fun to be with my friends,” she says. “Every year, I look forward to the season, to not only get better, but also get to do the extra things with my friends and other teammates.”
For some, this season marks new beginnings. Sophomore Stella Anastasakis, a first-year player on defense, describes her experience learning the sport. “This is my first year playing lacrosse and I’ve enjoyed it so much, everyone is so welcoming. I play defense pretty consistently and I play on the low end by the goal. I’ve loved learning how to play lacrosse.” Stella’s experience shows how supportive the program can be for new players stepping into a fast-paced sport.
Another defender, Sophomore Teja Novakovic, Focuses on the relationships that she built during the season. “My highlight of this season has been being able to grow with my friends and teammates not only physically, but mentally,” she says.”I have grown into a team player and have made so many memories with my best friends.”

Sophomore Anna Costin states, “What I love most about lacrosse is the teamwork and friendships made from it. Each game brings up new challenges, and every time, my team is able to work together to both improve and compete throughout each game.”
Costin explains,”This season, my communication and speed have been two of my biggest strengths, helping me contribute to the team through teamwork, collaboration, and support both on and off the field.”
On the boys side, junior Aiden Morell reflected on a major moment in his season. Morell explains,” A highlight of my season was scoring against and beating Strongsville High School. It was a close and extremely competitive game which was why it was so fun.”
With Morell having seven years of experience under his belt, he has continued to improve and make an impact for his team. “One thing that went well for me this year was making varsity. It shows my dedication and hard work to become the best that I can be on the field,” says Morrell.
Sophomore Jake Antila expresses how he feels about the intensity of the

game. He says, “I love the physicality of the game and being able to play with other great individuals and players.” Antila has also seen personal growth and success this season. “I made varsity and have had a good amount of minutes and opportunities.”
Overall, The BBHHS lacrosse teams continue to show how competition, teamwork, and relationships affect them both on and off the field. Whether it be celebrating victories, or learning from their losses, the Bees lacrosse season experience is something that the players will remember far after their last game.
