As the fall season wraps up at BBHHS, student-athletes from every sport reflect on months of hard work and unforgettable memories. From volleyball and soccer to golf, cross country, tennis, football, and cheerleading, each team shared a common goal, to grow stronger together, both on and off the field.
The BBHHS Girls’ Volleyball Team ended their season with a 5–12 record, but what they’ll remember most isn’t the numbers. “UNC team camp over the summer was definitely my favorite memory,” Caitlin Mihalek shared. Despite challenges, the team fought through injuries and “stayed together as one.” Senior players called their final game “bittersweet but happy it was over,” and Mihalek said they’ll especially miss playing alongside younger teammates, including her sister, Brooke Mihalek.
The Girls’ cross country team ran their way to regionals, placing 16th out of 36 teams. Senior runners described the season as both challenging and rewarding. “Mentally staying positive is definitely a challenge,” Lillian Cain explained, “but when everyone tries to stay positive, it works well for us.” While the weather was questionable, the team achieved its goal of reaching regionals and celebrated the accomplishment with pride.
The BBHHS Football Team wrapped up their season with a 7-5 record and made it to Week 12 of the playoffs, a significant achievement highlighted by hosting a home playoff game for the first time in six years. The season was filled with memorable moments, particularly getting the golden shoe back and celebrating Senior Night. Despite facing challenges like injuries, the team achieved its goals of making the playoffs and beating their rivals through hard work and dedication. The one thing the team wished to change was the close loss to Nordonia. The seniors were emotional after playing their final game, but they also formed strong connections with the younger players.
The season was a great success for the BBHHS Boys Soccer Team, concluding with an impressive 13-4-2 record and an advancement to the State Semifinals for the first time in 20 years (2005 was the last State appearance). The team achieved its main goal of making a deep playoff run, securing the District Title (first in 12 years) by beating Wadsworth and, memorably, winning the Regional Title by defeating Hudson, their first victory to Hudson in seven years. This remarkable run, combined with their first Suburban League National Conference Title in 12 years, set multiple new school records. The team believes they turned the program around this year and made Brecksville respected again in high school soccer. Though challenged by tough regular-season losses against Hudson and Saint Ignatius, the team overcame them by bonding and playing to their highest potential, even with one of Ohio’s top three hardest schedules. The ultimate team goal was a State Championship, which they narrowly missed by losing in a “fluke” golden goal overtime in the semi-final. According to Luka Zivcovik, that loss was a “tough pill to swallow” for the seniors, they left proud. Having established strong connections with promising underclassmen like Dominic Dean, Walker Boose, Maksim Crncevic, and Embry Rahe, who are expected to continue the program’s success.
The Varsity Boys Golf team concluded a highly successful season just shy of their goal of reaching the State Tournament. The team, coached by Greg Roderick and consisting of four seniors and one junior, achieved an undefeated 9-0 match record and won the Suburban Conference Championship. Their season ended at the District Tournament with a score of 310, placing 8th overall, ten strokes away from States. Despite this, the players emphasized that strong team chemistry, hard work, and a positive mental approach were key to their success and were highlighted by the individual conference recognition of Tyler Pickard and the experience of senior Leo Carey.
From the cheer team’s first-place win at Hoover to the tennis team’s laughter-filled bus rides, every group found reasons to celebrate. Whether it was a championship run or simple moments of friendship, the Bees proved that success is measured not just in victories, but in the memories made along the way.
