Fall sports are wrapping up and the winter athletes are ready to shine. Students are looking forward to the exciting upcoming winter and seeing all the different athletes playing and competing.
To start, the girls basketball team has been working hard for their upcoming season. The team has 3 seniors, Alexa Ganley, Maya Woods, and Anna Zumwalt. They have been a part of the team for 4 years and are psyched to see the wins and gains this year. The team is coached by Joe Zeiner and he has helped build a good connection, encouraging the ladies to play hard over the summer and go to many optional practices in the preseason. Students can’t wait to see what the girls have to show. Show your support on Saturday, 11/22 @ 12 p.m. vs. Olmsted Falls – Away. Don’t want to make the drive? Come, Monday, 12/1 @ 7 p.m. vs. Canton South – Home.
Along with girls basketball, the boys basketball has been working hard as well. The boys are in the gym getting ready for a fun season. The team has been known for being successful with having a good brotherhood. The first game for the season is Tuesday, 11/ 25 vs Saint Ignatius High @ 11:00 p.m. – Home. Can’t make it? Then come out, Saturday, 11/29 vs. Hoover @ 1 p.m. – Home.
“Bee Like 23!” The girls gymnastics team is going strong into a 23 year state champion streak with coach Maria Schneider and the team stings to keep their reign. Seeing the girls compete on the beam, bars, floor and vault is always so exciting. This year the seniors have to work hard to keep the legacy. Senior Carol Samuel states, “The team has a good connection. All of the seniors are really close, so it’s easy for us to agree on stuff.” The team is looking forward to a successful season. Good Luck Lady Bees! Don’t miss them on Thursday, 12/11 vs. Padua @ 6 p.m. – home.
Another exciting sport students can’t wait to see is the wrestling team. This team is coached by Todd Haverdill who has been very successful leading and assisting the boys to victory. This team is filled with some of the best athletes in the nation. Senior wrestler Rylan Secrist has just been announced as the #1 wrestler in the nation. Rylan is committed to Arizona State along with Jace Jett who is committed to Ohio University.
Wrestlers are committed to the sport, either in the gym lifting or on the mats learning the skill and technique they need to succeed. The team trains just as much in the off season making sure they keep the weight and physique for when it comes time to compete. Come see them on Friday, 12/5 @ Hawken High School vs. John Marshall. A little closer to home, they compete at Independence High School on Saturday, 12/6 @ 7:30 a.m.
In the water, the swimmers are gearing up and training hard, preparing for a successful season. If they are just training for a 500 meter swim or a 50 meter sprint, they are all training together in the water and lifting. The early morning practices for the team is going to be worth it for the success. The divers are in the water and on boards practicing their flips and turns for the upcoming season. Junior Adriana Tartara says, “This year we have a lot of talent on the team, and I think we will definitely have some state qualifiers.” An exciting season is ahead of the swim and dive team, so come cheer for them on Saturday, 12/6 @ Solon High School, 10 a.m. vs. Twinsburg.
Last but not least, the cheer team is back in action. The team is working hard to make school spirit fun and exciting. Having the cheerleaders is a vital role in supporting our teams on the court and bringing the energy to the fans in the stands. Senior Carmen Beeson says, “The team is close and consists of mainly seniors, so we have been cheering together for most of our high school season.” The cheer team always looks like they are having a good time supporting the boys basketball team. It doesn’t matter if they are home or away, they are there to cheer them on even against the hardest teams. Students can’t wait to see the good vibes going out to the team and fans.
The bowling team is also coming on strong and will have their very own story next month, so stay tuned! In the mean time, plan to check them out on Wednesday, 12/3 @ Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn to complete against Copley High School, 4 p.m.
Winter athletes are are ready to shine, whether it’s rain or snow, in the water, on the court, or on the mats! It’s going to be an exciting season, and the Bees cannot wait for it!
