Prom is one of the most exciting events in high school. It is one of the formal dances held by BBHHS where juniors and seniors dress up, have fun with friends, and take pictures. However, leading up to prom can be stressful. When it comes to finding a dress/suit, places to take pictures, and planning in general, prom becomes more of a task rather than a fun night to dance the night away.
Prom is a formal dance held each spring for juniors and seniors at BBHHS. This year, students are planning outfits, organizing groups, and deciding where to take photos before the event. Many are also curious about how the new venue will compare to last year’s location.
Finding the perfect outfit is often one of the biggest parts of prom preparation. Many students are shopping at popular stores such as Maggie’s Bridal and Prom, Windsor, Dillard’s, and Macy’s. Senior Chloe Garten said choosing a dress was her favorite part of planning prom. “I got my dress from Maggie’s and it’s royal blue,” Garten said. Other students chose different styles and locations when shopping for prom outfits. Junior Sabrina Chatal said she looked outside of Ohio to find the right dress.
Some students are also thinking about coordinating their outfits with their dates. Senior Logan Kerber said he chose a classic style for his suit. “I’m wearing a black suit from Men’s Wearhouse with a light blue tie,” Kerber said.
While outfits are important, many students say prom photos are just as memorable as the event itself. Cleveland offers several popular photo locations for prom groups, including the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Arcade Cleveland, Voinovich Park, and Terminal Tower. Some groups are also choosing more personal locations. Senior Gia Figer stated, “We’re taking pictures at Eva’s house and possibly the arcade too”.
Students are also thinking carefully about the size of their prom groups. Many prefer smaller groups to keep the night organized and less stressful.
Although planning can be exciting, some students say balancing prom with other responsibilities can be challenging. Senior athletes, for example, sometimes have to work around sports schedules. “We actually have a game on Monday, so it does make things a little complicated,” Chloe Garten said.
Cost is another concern students often mention when preparing for prom. Dresses, suits, and other preparations can add up quickly. “Prom dresses have gotten really expensive over the years,” said Mrs.Tagalicod. “You can still find reasonable ones, but the prices have definitely gone up.”
Despite the planning and expenses, most students agree that prom is worth the effort. With friends, photos, and a night dedicated to celebrating the end of the school year, the event remains one of the most memorable traditions of high school.
As prom night approaches, BBHHS students continue finalizing their outfits, planning their photos, and counting down the days until the dance.
