The 2026 super bowl has finally burst off the line with a nail-biting performance between the Seattle SeaHawks and the New England Patriots. The game took place during February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, the second Superbowl to be held in the stadium. In between the yard lines, Bad Bunny, a notable Puerto Rican rapper, made his debut performance at the 2026 Superbowl halftime show. In the rematch of Superbowl XLIX, eleven years earlier, the SeaHawks defeated the Patriots to win their second title in franchise history.
THE FIRST HALF
The first half of the 2026 super bowl featured a defense-dominated game. The first quarter has the SeaHawks winning 3-0 with points scored by Jason Myers, the kicker for the SeaHawks and setting a record with 5 field goals throughout the entirety of the game. Seattle managed three first downs on the opening drive including a 23-yard catch by Cooper
Kupp, the SeaHawks wide receiver as he was going out of bounds. The first quarter ended with the Patriots, having driven into the SeaHawks territory, were forced into a punting situation.
With the SeaHawks strong defense and Jason Myers 2 field goals, it put them in a leading score of 9-0 for the second quarter. At the start of the second quarter, the Patriots started out with the ball which forced the SeaHawks into a punt. They stalled quickly and punted after three-plays; however, the Seahawks responded with an 8-play (an offensive strategy), and a 55 yard-drive which ended with the SeaHawks scoring a field goal by Myers. The Patriots offensive, which was led by Drake May, the Patriots quarterback, had struggled significantly with many failed attempts to move the ball. Kenneth Walker III, the running back for the SeaHawks, had many significant runs which included 30-yard and 29-yard gains. However, Seattle could not get anything going in the red zone (The area between the opponents 20-yard line and the goal), losing 4 yards before Jason Myers kicked a 39-yard field goal.
HALFTIME SHOW
Bad Bunny, a notable puerto rican rapper, performed at the 2026 super bowl halftime show. The halftime show emerged in Puerto Rican sugar cane fields, surrounded by jibaros in pavas (farmers with straw hats) along with the opening song, “Tití Me Preguntó”. From there, the show progressed into songs like “Yo Perreo Sola,” as he emerged on top of the casita. Celebrities like Cardi B, Jessica Alba, Pedro Pascal, Karol G, Young Miko, Ronald Acuña Jr., Alix Earle and Dave Grutman were guests at his party de marquesina. He then moved into songs like “Gasolina”. Once the strings of his song “Monaco” played, Lady Gaga emerged at a real-wedding scene, performing her section of the song “Die with a Smile”.
Ricky Martin, one of Puerto Rico’s greatest crossover artists, performed Bad Bunny’s “Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii,”. Behind Martin, jibaros in pavas, climbed electricity poles that exploded, symbolizing Puerto Rico’s frequent blackouts and power outages. Bad Bunny’s 2026 Superbowl Halftime show concluded with a powerful message for the pan-American Unity. Bad Bunny along with his dance, waving various American flags, with the ending song “Debí Tirar Más Foto”.
THE SECOND HALF
The third quarter of the super bowl is a wrap and the SeaHawks lead the Patriots 12-0. The Patriots started off with the ball, but punted. The SeaHawks scored another point by a field kick. Sam Darnold distributed the ball well on the drive, throwing four passes to four different receivers to secure first downs. But once again, the Seahawks stalled near the red
zone. They got down to the Patriots 23-yard line, and managed a one-yard run and two incompletions before Jason Myers kicked a 41-yard field goal.
The Seattle Seahawks are now a two-time Super Bowl champion franchise. The Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl 60 to take home the Lombardi Trophy. The final quarter was the highest scoring frame of the game, with the two teams combining for 30 points. While the Seahawks “won” the quarter 17-13, it was the quarter in which they pulled away in a big way. They took a 19-0 lead with a touchdown to open the quarter. It looked like the Patriots might make a game of things as they finally got on the board when Drake Maye found Mack Hollins for a touchdown and then forced a Seahawks punt. However, the Seahawks picked off Maye on back-to-back drives and put up ten points to put this game away.
The 2026 matchup felt like a time machine for many fans, echoing the legendary 2015 Super Bowl XLIX between the same two franchises. However, the repeat pairing sparked mixed emotions among fans.

When asked if the NFL had become too predictable, responses were split. Everett Egan, a freshman at BBHHS argued, “Yes, because the NFL wanted the Patriots to lose.”
However, Lexi Jeagers, a sophomore at BBHHS states, “I don’t really think that it was rigged, but it could be.”
Bad Bunny made history as the first solo Latin artist to headline. Many praised the set, which began in a sugar cane field, direct symbolism to Puerto Rican history and the artist’s roots. Jeagers called it, “cool” and a “good representation of his culture”.
However, Micheal Ziegler, a junior at BBHHS found the sugar cane field to be “random”.
In a dominant defensive showcase at Levi’s Stadium, the Seattle Seahawks secured their second title in franchise history with a 29–13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX. The game, played on February 8, 2026, served as a long awaited “revenge match” for Seattle fans, finally answering the heartbreak of Super Bowl XLIX from over a decade ago.
