At BBHHS, the hallways aren’t just filled with chatter, they’re filled with music. From country to rap to pop, students are listening to all kinds of genres. But what exactly are they listening to, and why?
Across grades, students shared their favorite artists, albums, and apps showing how music helps them connect, focus, and unwind.
Most students said they use Spotify or Apple Music as their main streaming apps. “I use Spotify since it has a large range of music, podcasts, and books,” says freshman Alexis Latek. “It’s also very user friendly and easy to use.”
Meanwhile, others preferred Apple Music. “Apple Music is better,” senior Brady McGrath says. “Spotify is difficult to use.”
Music streaming apps play a big role in how students discover new songs and artists. Billboard’s Hot 100 and Apple Music’s Global Top 50 show trends that match what many students at BBHHS are already listening to, Taylor Swift, Drake, and Zach Bryan remain fan favorites.
When it comes to favorite artists, Taylor Swift, Drake, Juice WRLD, and Zach Bryan top the list. “My number one listener on the app hands down would be Taylor Swift,” Latek says. “Her music helps me reduce stress.”
For sophomore Mark Clark, rap dominates his playlist. “I use Musi because it’s free with no ads,” he explains. “Drake is my top artist, and my favorite album is ‘Certified Lover Boy.’”
Other students find comfort in different types of music. Another sophomore, Sia Papadatos says she listens to “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan.
Senior Edward German shares, “Juice WRLD has been my favorite for 6 or 7 years.”
Music tastes change as quickly as the seasons. “Over time, my music taste has developed as I’ve aged,” Latek says. “My mood and the seasons around me shape what I listen to.”
When asked about concerts, many students had dream lineups. “I’d go see Taylor Swift again,” Latek says. “After her Eras Tour, I’d sell an arm and a leg for the next one.”
Others, like sophomore Mark Clark, says he’d attend a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert. In turn, McGrath says he’d love to see Mac Miller, if he could.
No matter the mood, music connects students across grades and personalities. From emotional lyrics to upbeat tracks, everyone finds music that fits their style. “I would recommend Tate McRae,” Latek adds. “She’s a breakout star who mixes dance and music in a way that’s unforgettable.”
Whether it’s Taylor Swift lyrics or Drake beats, one thing’s clear, at BBHHS, the music never stops playing.
