The six queens will take the stage at the Conor’s Place theater at Playhouse square from November 11-16. “Six: the Musical” is based on King Henry VIII and his six wives. The musical tells the story of the six wives with fun pop music, dancing, and catchy lyrics.
Alisha Glasser, the Senior Programming Manager at Playhouse Square says,”The costumes, music, clever lyrics, and a twist on history, and the female cast helps the show be more entertaining for the audience.”
The famous lyric, “Divorced, Beheaded, Died, Divorced, Beheaded, Survived”, is a brief overview of each wife’s fate with the King.
The first wife was Catherine of Aragon, who he divorced after 24 years of marriage. Following their separation, he married Anne Boleyn. Henry accused Anne of treason and adultery, and swiftly had her cut off. Shortly after, he was married to Jane Seymour in 1536. She gave birth to Henry’s only son Edward VI. Shortly after the birth, Jane passed away
Henry’s next 3 marriages started in 1540. Anne of Cleves was his first during this time. He divorced her because he found her to be unattractive. He then married Katherine Howard. He accused her of cheating and had her beheaded just like Anne. Lastly, he married Catherine Parr, who outlived Henry.
This entertaining and compelling storyline comes to life at Playhouse Square. The 90 minute musical gives
each queen a song to tell their stories and what it was liked being married to Henry.
This isn’t the first time that “Six” has performed at Playhouse Square. In August of 2023, the show had a much longer run. Glasser says, “Six was well-received the first time it came to Playhouse Square and we are thrilled to give Ohio another opportunity to see the show.”
Playhouse square has an amazing team of people that let shows come to the theaters for people to enjoy. Glasser explains,”We strive to give every guest who comes to Playhouse Square an excellent experience every time they visit. Often when someone gets their first taste of Broadway at Playhouse Square, they want to come back for more.”
