BBHHS Softball is swinging into the start of their season! This year they have a lot to look forward to such as getting better as a team throughout the season, game days/getting ready with the team, and this year the team has an entirely new coaching staff. Some of their upcoming games are 3/22 at home vs Manchester, 3/24 at North Royalton, 3/28 at Elyria Catholic, and 3/31 at Stow.
Some players to watch this season include Senior Gianna Roth because she had a .475 batting average as a junior, with a .857 fielding percentage, and had 16 stolen bases. Also, Junior Rowan Weber’s batting average from last year is .471, her fielding percentage is .947, and she had 10 home runs last season! She also was on 1st team All County and All State honorable mention! Lastly, Caiya La and Bridget Foley play shortstop and second base respectively, and they have an amazing comradery. Last season, La had 2 home runs, and 8 stolen bases, and Foley had a .926 fielding percentage.
Their goal for this upcoming season is “WAM! Win the 2025 division 2 State Championship, Achieve academically, and Make amazing memories. These are three main goals that we focus on as a team along with other small goals to make us as great as possible,” says Gabriella Rowan. They also hope to make it to regionals this year.
As they are getting ready for the season to begin, they have been working hard on many things at practice. Rowan says, “During practice we focus on a lot of live situations to prepare the best we can for games. We work a lot on hitting and do lots of live hitting to get hitters, pitchers, and catchers working. We are a fairly new team and a lot of us have not played together before, so we have also gotten the chance to play together and get comfortable on the field.”
Their toughest game this year is expected to be North Royalton. “They have a lot of great players, so we need to bring our A game and play together as a team in order to win these two conference games. Also, the playoff games will be tough. Even moving down from division I to II, there are many phenomenal teams in division II with us. In some ways, it’s definitely a tougher division than others, even division I.” says Roth.
Make sure to come out and see our softball team this season!
