The 2025 Golden Globes delivered its usual mix of glitz, glamour, and heated debates. While the awards ceremony celebrated the best of film and television from the past year, it also sparked discussions among students about its fairness, surprises, and standout moments.

Senior Frank Yin summed up 2024 in the entertainment world: “Great year for music and entertainment!”
Not all students shared his enthusiasm for the Golden Globes. Junior Lena Yaussy expressed her disappointment: “I didn’t know most of the winners and I was disappointed.” She did, however, highlight one shining moment, calling Wicked “the best moment of 2024.” The highly anticipated film adaptation of the beloved musical surprisingly only won Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the awards, however.
The awards’ outcomes were a major talking point. Freshman Morgan Szwagulak found the results a mix of justified and perplexing: “Most winners deserved it, but for some of them, I feel that other nominees should’ve gotten it.” She pointed to surprising wins and losses, such as Flow beating Inside Out 2 for Best Animated Feature and Emilia Pérez winning Best Motion Picture. Senior Veronica Marita agreed, adding, “How they pick the winners at the Golden Globes is very biased.” She also voiced disappointment in Timothée Chalamet’s loss, despite his critically lauded performance.

One unifying element of the evening was the red carpet. “The fashion on the red carpet was very interesting,” said Marita. Szwagulak shared her favorites: Zendaya, Demi Moore, and Cynthia Erivo, who all dazzled in show-stopping ensembles. Demi Moore’s win was another highlight, marking her first-ever Golden Globe victory.
Looking forward, Yin is excited for the Grammys on Feb. 2, where he believes Benson Boone deserves Artist of the Year.
Despite differing opinions on the winners, the ceremony undeniably stirred emotions. With surprising victories, snubs, and unforgettable fashion moments, the 2025 Golden Globes proved why it remains one of the most discussed events in entertainment.
