Returning for a 3rd time, the Hybreeze once again looks at the favorite musicians, vocalists, and lyricists of the students and staff of BBHHS. This month features Language Arts teacher, Sara Link; senior, Addison Johnson; junior, Addison Canter; sophomore, Tay Anderson; and freshman, Taylor Hatherill.
Language Arts Teacher, Sara Link’s musical artist of the month is Noah Kahan, ever since she attended his concert in May. One big thing she likes about him is that his music is catchy, but still has a meaning and purpose behind it. She says, “[I can] never get sick of him.” Her favorite song by Kahan is “You’re Gonna Go Far” because of it’s uplifting and deep nature. Another group vying for number one on her playlist is a band called “Counting Crows,” for reasons similar to those of Noah Khan. These artists convey a deep, emotional, and inspiring experience for Link that allows her to return to school every day refreshed.
Senior, Addison Johnson’s musical artist of the month is Tyler The Creator because of his new album. She’s been listening to Tyler The Creator since about 2019. She had heard about him since his album “Igor” blew up and became very popular. Other artists fighting for number one are Frank Ocean and Mac Miller. Her favorite song is “Santa Baby” by Laufey because she’s in the Christmas spirit already, and the song is new. All of these artists make Johnson feel happy because of the vibes of the songs.
Junior, Addison Canter’s musical artist of the month is Glorilla because her music is fun and good to dance to. Another artist she mentions is Zach Bryan because his songs are deep and have meaning. The reason why Glorilla is number one is because she hypes Canter up. Canter’s favorite songs from each artist are “Yeah Glo!” by Glorilla and “Pink Skies” by Zach Bryan. What’s interesting about both of these artist is that they both seem to be on opposite sides of the spectrum, meaning Glorilla has a more hype, club-oriented sound while Zach Bryan has a more self-reflective style of music.
Sophomore, Tay Anderson’s musical artist of the month is Don Toliver. Anderson holds him in high regard, stating, “He’s the GOAT.” A challenger to Don Toliver’s number one spot is Drake. Anderson likes both artists because of their great quality of music. When asked about a specific song, Anderson says, “2 AM” by Don Toliver is a good listen.
Freshman, Taylor Hatherill’s musical artist of the month is Kanye, just because he’s Kanye, which could mean a lot of things considering that he’s well known for many things like his music, his fashion sense, and his versatility. Someone else who is gunning for his number one spot is Drake, due to all of his hits. He said listening to Kanye makes him feel “crazy” and “euphoric.” He also says “I popped out the womb blasting Kanye,” so he’s been bumping him for a while. He actually first found out about Kanye while his brother was playing “Alien Vs. Predator” on his PS3 and put on some Kanye. He said when he first heard it, he started “busting it down” and dancing. Some music that gets him ready for wrestling is “Korn,” by Slipknot, along with music from the bands Megadeth, and Metallica.
