As the holiday season approaches, many students and staff at BBHHS are decorating their homes for the holidays with their own special twists on Christmas decorations. The community is embracing the Christmas spirit with everything from twinkling lights and colorful wreaths to homemade ornaments and entertaining displays. Several students and staff members have shared their favorite decorations, traditions, and unique elements that bring joy and brightness to their homes during this holiday season.
One of the biggest debates with Christmas decorations is whether to get a fake or real tree. Everyone who was asked has a fake tree and they all gave similar reasoning. Senior, Ryan Stewart, says, “I use a fake Christmas tree because it’s much less of a hassle than a real one.”
Senior, Emily Melcher, agrees saying, “ I have a fake Christmas tree. We don’t get a real one because it is a lot of work, and we usually don’t have time as a family to go and pick a real one out.”
Another big debate about Christmas decorations is whether or not to have coordinated ornaments or random ornaments. For the holidays, it seems they all wanted a more personalized tree, with more random and heartfelt ornaments rather than organized specific ones. English teacher, Gina Hutter says, “ We have random ornaments because they all have a story.”
“We use random ornaments because all of us kids have different ones and it makes it more personal if we all have our own up there,” Melcher adds.
Stewart, also shares, “Random ornaments, each one is associated with a memory or event that we went to as a family.”
Decorating the tree is something that is a big part of the holidays for a lot of people and everyone has their own twist and specific traditions. This is also the case for the outside of many peoples homes. Melcher says, “ We decorate the outside of our house. We have some white and blue lights that hang off the roof, and then we have some other lights that we spread across our bushes and trees.”
Hutter also has decorations outside and she says, “We have wreaths, lights, spotlights, and a tree with ornaments.”
In addition to the others Stewart says,”We decorate the outside of our home with some white lights and that’s all.”
Since everyone has different decorations and unique family traditions, everyone also has varied favorite decorations. Stewart has a specific favorite decoration and he states, “My favorite holiday decoration is this Christmas ornament that is a miniature version of the first spiderman comic. My parents got it for me when I was seven because I was such a big spiderman fan.”
Hutter also shares her favorite and says, “ My favorite is the angel on the top of the tree.”
Melcher adds, “My favorite holiday decoration is probably the Christmas tree because it’s so fun to put up and decorate. We do it as a family so it makes it more fun and gets us all into the Christmas spirit.”
Christmas decorations at home show many personal traditions and creativity, bringing warmth and joy to the holiday season. Decorating helps create a festive atmosphere that increases the spirit of Christmas. Ultimately, these decorations serve as a reminder of the importance of family, community, and the shared joy of celebrating the season in unique and meaningful ways.
