When People Look Back at 2025, What Will They Remember?

January

The start of the new year was definitely something that we will never forget. With President Trump being elected back into office and wildfires ripping through states across the nation this was a very eventful way to kick off the new year. Trump returning for his 2nd term in office officially marked him as the 47th president of the united states, as he serves his 2nd term in office people across the country hope that he will better the United States and leave office knowing he made an impact for the better.

February

In early February Trump announced his tariff plan for other countries, including China, Canada, and Mexico. China's increase would be 10%, Canada's increase would be 25%, and Mexico's would be 20%. The Grammy's were a big night for many artists like Kendrick Lamar, Chappell Roan, Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, Sierra Ferrell, and Beyonce who got 4 nominations and 3 Grammys for her album "Cowboy Carter". Superbowl XVI 59 took place on February 9th, the chiefs took on the eagles at home. The eagles took home the win with the final score being 40-22.

March

In March we saw the largest number of job cuts due to tariffs since the pandemic when it's numbers were at its highest. There was a massive tornado outbreak across the nation ripping through more than 11 states, causing many flood warnings for days after the disaster. Many businesses are also being closed and filing for bankruptcy due to Trump's new tariff policy.

April

During mid April the S&P 500 had a worldwide stock market crash due to Trump's new tariff policies that were passed months prior to the crash. The numbers were the lowest they have ever been and didn't return back to normal until days after the crash. The death of Pope Francis was mourned by the Catholic community on April 21st, when he passed away due to a stroke that ultimately took his life. Mojang Studio scored a massive win when the success of the Minecraft Movie was celebrated nationwide bringing in over $420 million dollars total.

May

In early May, Elon Musk's short time at the white house came to an end, after he tweeted Trump's Big Beautiful Bill was a "way to reduce wasteful spending". Robert Francis Prevost was crowned Pope Leo XIV leader of the Catholic faith. This caused some controversy across the community because the new pope were originally born in Vatican City.

June

The assassination of House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. Took place on June 13th, State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot in a separate attack but survived. Israel launched "Operation Rising Lion," striking Iran’s nuclear program. L.A. also saw massive deportations, and the "No King’s Day" protests took over the streets.

July

Catastrophic flooding in Texas took place on July 4th in the Hill Country, leaving 132 people dead. It was especially heartbreaking at Camp Mystic, where dozens of campers and counselors were named missing. Sean "Diddy" Combs trial finally ended in late July. He was found not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking charges, though he was convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution and denied bail. He is set to serve roughly 50 months in prison.

August

All eyes were on President Trump at the beginning of August when he met with Vladimir Putin at an Air Force Base to discuss the war in Ukraine. Though nothing changed in Ukraine after the meeting, the photos taken from the meeting were all over the media. Towards the end of the month Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their long waited engagement.

September

At Utah Valley University on September 10th, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a rally. Meanwhile, in the world of TV, Jimmy Kimmel went off the air indefinitely after some words were said about the Trump administration and a "drug boat" from Venezuela, but he eventually made it back to his regularly scheduled specials.

October

The U.S. federal government shut down for 43 days, the longest federal government shutdown recorded in history, because Congress couldn't agree on the budget. Hurricane Melissa, a massive Category 5 storm, devastated Jamaica and Haiti. killing over 20 people On a hopeful note, 20 Israeli citizens finally made it home after being held captive for over 700 days.

Novemeber

Zohran Mamdani became the first Muslim Mayor of NYC, and Democrats swept seats across the country. The government shutdown finally ended, too. The Dodgers took home another World Series title and the Wicked movie took over the musical industry after its massive success in theaters. Congress also finally called for the release of the Epstein Files.

December

2025 ended with a shooting at Brown University that left two students dead. In Australia a terrorist attack took place at a Hanukkah festival at Bondi Beach killing 15 people. It’s been a really tough year for the world, but we're hoping 2026 brings some better news and light for everyone.
