At this year’s fall blood drive BBHHS donated 81 pints of blood! Students and teachers all contributed to that number. In the upcoming blood drives on January 17 and March 14, they hope to beat that number.
When donating blood the process is easy. First you make an appointment, you go in, the red cross workers test your blood, then they get you on a table and take your blood. After that, you have officially become a life saver!
Junior, Hannah Hahn shares, “ I decided to donate blood because I want to help others as much as I can. I really want to make a difference and collect badges on my red cross app.”
Wondering why donating blood is so important? Every two seconds someone in the U.S needs blood. Approximately 29,000 units of blood are used everyday in the U.S. By donating blood you can help people of all ages who are suffering in the hospital.
It’s very normal to be scared to donate blood at first, but the overall experience is worth getting past the nerves. Also, there are rewards for donating blood! This year if you donated blood you received a free $10 gift card to anywhere you want.
If you are healthy and meet the donation requirements we encourage you to at least give it a try. If you want to help out at the blood drives, but if donating blood is not for you, feel free to reach out to Mr. DiFrancesco on volunteering or bringing snacks for future blood drives.
