Lady Bees Come Out With A Bang

Lady+Bees+Come+Out+With+A+Bang

The Girl’s Basketball season is starting with a swish following with the crowd going wild! The Lady Bees beat North Royalton 50-27 in their first game of the season. They were 1-1 after taking on the Wadsworth Grizzles, a strong competitor for them every year.

Coming up, they aim to take down Wadsworth, Stow, Monroe Falls, and Solon to win the conference this year. Lady Bees basketball has 22 games this season, so bee sure to come and support them.

This year, Joe Zenir is taking on the girls’ basketball team. He isn’t new to the coaching scene, but has been hired as the varsity girl’s basketball coach this year. The girls speak very highly of him.  Brooke Weber, Junior says, “ He tremendously improved our program.”

Mr.Zenir’s goal for the team is to get better every day. He says they have enough talent to surprise teams with their season’s progress.

Bridget Barber, Junior, adds, “He made it a more positive environment and strives for us to win.”

Players to watch this season include junior Jessie Zenir, who is strong with the ball, and has been a lead scorer in the past couple of games.  In addition, freshman Ashley Perdion is very good at driving the ball. Junior, Emily Melcher has been a greatshooter.

Players share that they will miss Barber this season. She is currently going through her second ACL tear. This is tough on the team as she was the lead scorer and an All-Ohio guard. This unfortunately will be her 3rd knee surgery. Bridget says, “This is not how I wanted the season to go, but I am able to step up off the court and be a leader.”

The games so far have been going well. The team passes are consistent; they, do a very good job of sharing the ball with each other, and they play fast. More shooting and rebounding needs to be done for the team to be more successful. Currently, the team is 2-2 overall.

The Zenir’s are huge contributors to this team. Mr. Zenir made sure to have them very active in the off-season to get ready for this season, and Jessie steps up whenever needed. Mr Zenir says, Highschool sports and coaching is very important to him and getting to do this with his daughter has been an unexpected gift.
