Fall leaves, autumn breeze, and chilly eves oh my! As the fall season quickly approaches Brecksville has found many ways to make the most of the season. No matter how you typically spend the fall, it’s difficult to deny the seasonal excitement that buzzes through Brecksville.
Friday Night Lights are an obvious advantage to the fall season, but as these will soon come to an end it’s important to explore other things to get into the fall spirit.
Many throughout the school look forward to fall as their favorite season, English Teacher Sarah Ignatz-Hoover eagerly anticipating the, “crisp weather, football season, and fall food.”
For senior Ben Lane, traditions and memories take the cake on creating a meaningful fall season.
“I very much look forward to all of the food and decorations,” says Lane, “but like I said earlier I love getting to see my family! There is something just so special [about] getting to see your family members and that’s what I love most about this time of year.”
Lane describes further the importance of his family and claims that the fall always gives him increased opportunities to visit.
“My perfect fall day would be spent going to the farmers market and making lots of fall food! We always do this with my grandparents before Thanksgiving dinner and it is my absolute favorite day of fall,” says Lane.
Ignatz-Hoover’s perfect fall day looks a little different, but that doesn’t change the significance of how she would choose to spend it.
“I would sleep in just a little bit,” says Ignatz-Hoover. “I don’t like sleeping in too long, because I do feel like it wastes the day.” She describes a slow morning full of a hike while walking her dog, but the day isn’t complete with adding to the atmosphere on all fronts.
“I would have some fall lunch things, different depending on the day,” she says, “something like cabbage and noodles or potato pancakes, apple cider. Then I would probably spend most of the rest of the day reading by a fire.”
Marcella Kolodziej, another senior, sees fall from a different perspective.
Kolodziej’s father is the marketing director for Mapleside Farms, a local farm in Brunswick Ohio, and in addition to this Kolodziej has spent plenty of her own time at Mapleside, both working and visiting.
Mapleside gives people “a glimpse of how beautiful, not necessarily Brunswick, but just Ohio is in general, and the overlook on the hill, especially during the fall, it’s very pretty, and I think it’s quality family time,” says Kolodziej.
She goes on further to describe the excitement surrounding Mapleside, elaborating on what exactly makes it so popular.
“I like how there’s a big variety of things to do for all ages. For little kids there’s the big jump pillow, and then for adults there’s wine mazes, stuff like that,” she says. “My favorite part about Mapleside is how big it is and how you can explore and do little activities along the way.”
Bringing life to the season is what marks the experience most enjoyable, giving it purpose. “It’s just a season where somehow it feels revitalized,” says Ignatz-Hoover.
In the true spirit of things I took it upon myself to take the advice from the enthusiastic people of Brecksville to create my own “Fall Days.” Over a span of 24 hours I took on my own leaf walk and visited Mapleside Farm, but I immersed myself further with pumpkin carving, movie watching and more.
Being in the greatest fall spirit I could be, I ask you to sit down with a warm drink and cozy blanket to join me on my own “Fall Days.”
