Every year numerous students and teachers at Brecksville Broadview Heights High School get funding to help improve classrooms, campuses, or to win scholarships. Every year, the Foundation helps teachers bring new ideas to life and gives students financial support for their next steps after high school. Their impact can be seen in classrooms, on campus, and in the opportunities given to graduating seniors.
Grants That Help Teachers
The Schools Foundation gives out grants to teachers so they can bring creative and engaging learning experiences to their students.
For example, Brady Bourquin, environmental science teacher received a grant to help with his environmental science class. “The idea was to revamp the senior entrance to have a more aesthetically pleasing approach to the building along with a more environmentally appropriate approach,” he explained.
The grant allowed Bourquin and his students to install a 20 foot waterfall. The waterfall served not only the purpose to look pretty, but also helped with water management. “When it rains, it helps control the water from flowing and destroying flower beads and building up in places it should not be,” says Bourquin.
Each spring, teachers have the opportunity to apply for grants, which are then reviewed by a group of trustees. The winners are announced in the fall when school starts back up.
Scholarships for Seniors
The Foundation isn’t just about helping teachers, but it also gives out many scholarships to seniors. In 2024 alone, 66 scholarships were awarded to seniors.
Raising Money
The Schools Foundation depends on donations to continue supporting teachers and students. In March, the foundation holds an annual fundraiser called, A Toast to Our Future. This year the school’s foundation was able to bring in $38,000 which was far exceeding their goal of $30,000.
Even small contributions make a difference, helping to fund for more grants helping to improve BBH campus and classrooms along with offering scholarships. Donations can be made both in person and online through the Foundation’s website.
What’s Next for the Foundation?
Future plans include updating policies, increasing awareness about the Foundation’s work, and organizing new events to expand fundraising efforts. A SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis conducted in June 2023, helped outline goals for continued growth and impact.
In the future the Foundation hopes to grow their community. They hope to make a big impact.
With strong community support, the Foundation will keep funding creative classroom projects and providing scholarships to help students take their next steps after high school. More details on grants, scholarships, and donation opportunities can be found at bbhsf.org.
