The article that finds the favorite songs, artists, and lyrics of students and staff here at BBHHS has once again returned for a 7th time. In this edition of Musical Artists of the Month, the HyBreeze features Carsyn Janas, freshman; Chris Perez, Sophomore; Leah Canter, Senior; and Gina Hutter, English teacher.
Senior, Leah Canter’s musical artists of the month is a band called Treaty Oak Revival because of how they mix both rock and country to create a sound that is uniquely their own. Canter also appreciates the meaning behind the songs, stating, “My favorite song is ‘Ode to Bourbon’ because it hits close to home for me.” Another artist she likes is Kenny Chesney because he always hits the spot for Canter’s taste in country music. Both these artists make her feel happy, and inspired. Sometimes, she’ll cruise around playing their music with the windows down.
Sophomore, Chris Perez’ musical artist of the month is Drake because… he’s Drake. Since the early 2000’s, Drake has made a huge impact in the music industry, redefining what it means to be a hit maker. Perez’ favorite song is “Get Along Better”. Another artist he likes is Giveon because of his rhythmic vocals paired with a unique R&B sound. These artists don’t make him feel any specific emotion, but if he chose one, it’d be chill.
Freshman, Carsyn Janas’ musical artist of the month is Zach Bryan because she went to his concert and likes his topic discussion. Another contender is Gracie Averyns. She doesn’t have a favorite line, but if she had to choose, she like, “We’re like concrete feet in the summer heat”, in Zach Bryan’s song titled, “I remember everything”. She feels like their music is relatable and it’s also just something she puts on during everyday activities. She’s been listening to both artists since 2023, since she was addicted to tik tok, and that’s how she discovered them.
Language Arts teacher, Gina Hutter’s musical artist of the month is Billy Joel because she believes, “There is no mood he can’t match with a song.” Her favorite song is “Stormfront”, because she can sing all the lyrics. Another artist that she likes is Taylor Swift. She’s been to four of her concerts and likes the experience of it since everybody there is happy. She likes her song, “Shake it off” because it’s a good song to dance to, but she doesn’t like Swift’s material she made during the covid years. She’s been listening to Billy Joel for basically her whole life. She even remembers her dad playing him in the car. She started to like Taylor Swift because her daughter loved her, so she took her to one of her concerts and had a great experience. To prepare her for the day during her morning drive, she turns on 106.5 because of their commercials and song selection.
