The Swim and dive team are finishing their last laps this season! The swimming Bees have completed their regular season. They competed well against their competition in the regular season only losing about 3 meets. There were 11 girls and 8 guys from our team that made it to districts this season.
With districts coming to a close, the Bees had four people going to the state meet including Junior, Rachel Kirin; Senior, Broc Rousseau; Senior, Lucas Culotta; and Sophomore, Ben Ackerman. Kirin dove her way into first place in the state! Senior diver Rousseau dove onto the podium as well, coming 6th in the state and setting the second highest record at BBHHS.
Some of the toughest meets they attended this year were Hudson and Nordonia. “Hudson is always a strong swim team and work hard to make us fight for our wins,” said Senior, Abby Hogle.
“Nordonia was our last dual meet and Nordonia is a good team. It was also at the end of the season, so I was pretty tired,” said Senior, Ava Petros.
Culotta said the toughest meet this year was “states as it is my last meet and, well, it is states!”
To get ready for their races, each swimmer has a different routine for themselves. Petros says, “At bigger meets, there is a warmup pool so before races I usually go warm up in that pool. Also, I like to get behind the block pretty early, so I’m not worried about missing my event.
Some advice the seniors would give to underclassmen, “Enjoy your time, it does go by faster than you really think!” says, Petros.
“Don’t compare yourself to others, even if you don’t see results, keep working,” says Hogle.
In addition, Focus on technique more than speed. “Speed comes from technique and moving water,” says Culotta.
The swimming bees enjoyed and conquered the season this year. They gave it their all and saw results! Some of their favorite moments this year were Senior night because they got to wear costumes and do a relay, The State Tournament, and Championship because they are taping(resting) for the big meets. Sectionals is always a favorite meet to compete during the year.
Lastly, if you are considering joining swim next year do it! The memories and friendships last forever!
