The “Musical Artists of the Month” series is making a return for its sixth edition. This month features Freshman, Peyton Williams; Sophomore, Logan Schlauch; and Senior, Neena Cale.
Freshman, Peyton Williams has both Lil Baby and Young Thug for his musical artists of the month because of their violent lyrics and profanity. Another contender is Future because he just sounds good and because he’s inspirational. His favorite song includes all of them, it’s called “Dum, Dumb, and Dumber”. Williams says, “They make me feel like I’m on cloud nine.” He also states, “They make me feel good, brave, and fearless.” NBA Youngboy was another artist he’d listen to because he’s a gangster rapper and he boosted Williams’ adrenaline for football games.
Sophomore, Logan Schlauch’s musical artist of the month is DMX, who is well known for the raw passion and aggression in his delivery, as well as his relatability to his audience. Schlauch has been listening to him for the past couple of years and says his favorite song by him is “Slippin’” because of the storytelling featured in the song. The verses feature vivid imagery that gives the listener an insight into who DMX is and how he got to his position from a troubled past. Another song he likes from DMX is “Here We Go Again”, which is another masterclass of storytelling. His second place artist is Xzibit, but only with certain songs like “Get Your Walk On” and even then, he isn’t close to DMX.
Senior Neena Cale’s musical artist of the month is ROLEMODEL because he just came out with lots of unreleased music, and has a unique sound. Some others include Noah Kahan and the Lumineers because of their concert. Her favorite line from Noah Kahan comes his song “Orange Juice”. He says, “You said my heart has changed and my soul has changed, in my heart in my heart, that my life has changed, that this town had changed, and you had not.” She believes it talks about how people change and handle that differently, and how that causes them to distance themselves from each other. These artists make her feel comforted because of their relatability. She feels like they make music about situations that are similar to her. She heard about Noah Kahan when he first started gaining popularity on Tik Tok.
