Basketball is now more than halfway through their season. The girls are 13-3 overall and 9-2 in the conference putting them in first place. The boys are 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the conference putting them second in the conference.
Both teams have faced tough competition throughout the season. The girls’ toughest game so far was the championship game in Florida. “They were very competitive and strong. They just outplayed and out-hustled us,” said senior captain Emily Melcher.
As for the boys, “Our toughest game this season was our home game against North Royalton,” said senior John Fazioli. “That was a hard loss for our team.”
These tough games have pushed both teams to become the best they can be, and it shows. The girls’ best game so far this season was in Florida. “The first game in Florida was probably our best game. We had the most energy we’ve had all year, a strong start to the game, and it was our best team game overall,” said sophomore Adelyn Rahe.
Fazioli added, “Our best game this season was the second round of the tournament in Florida. We played a super talented team from the area, and we played almost to perfection the entire game, advancing to the championship.” From there, they went on to win the entire tournament.
Even though both teams are deep in the season, they still have plenty of games looking forward. The girls are looking forward to playing Twinsburg and making a far playoff run this year. The boys are looking forward to playing North Royalton at their place.
Both of these teams have great talent and upcoming stars on them. Senior Captain Jessie Zenir says, “We have so many good players, that different people are stars on different nights. Emily, Bridget, and I have done well leading the way so far, which allows younger kids like Ashley, Addy, and Josie to make a huge difference in the game. Josie has really been a game changer this season.”
Fazioli says, “Brady has been a clear star this season. His scoring and passing has been on point the entire season; this is on top of the leadership he demonstrates every day.”
The girls have improved a lot as a team this year. Melcher says, “I think this year we have a lot better team chemistry and a lot of that came from Florida. Also having pretty much the same team from last year has made it almost the same, but everyone has improved on their skills and all-around play.” This will definitely help them make the playoff run that they are hoping for this year.
