The month of December has begun and the students and staff at BBHHS are ready for this holiday season! Many people have annual traditions they follow with friends and family, making this time of year so special. Whether they’re more common or unique traditions, each one shows what the holiday season is all about.
There are so many different traditions people follow. Some go to tree farms to get their Christmas trees, bake cookies, make gingerbread houses, host parties, and so many more. Junior, Faith Soukup says, “Every year my family and I bake Christmas cookies and give them to people.” She has been following this tradition for many years and says she looks forward to spending time with family and friends. Soukup adds that last year her and her family were in Costa Rica for Christmas, but this year she will be home for the holidays.
This time of year creates so many memories and so much joy for people to share. Teacher, Mr. Hansen says, “I love just the spirit, seeing people’s homes decorated as I drive around, and just the atmosphere of joy and togetherness.” He also says that his kids make traditions very fun. They set out cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve and are eager to open presents the next morning.
As the holidays approach, there are many celebrations that take place. Teacher, Mrs. Mauser says, “We get to host the Christmas Eve party, so it’s pretty fancy.” They make delicious food, get dressed up to go to church, their family comes back to their house, and Santa stops by in person! This year she also plans to see the Nutcracker with her mom and family.
Some people also travel around this time or are out of town for the holidays. Senior, Hailey Morell says, “On Christmas Eve, we go to Columbus to my aunt’s house.”
These traditions and celebrations are a perfect display of why this is truly “the most wonderful time of the year.” Getting to do even the smallest things with friends and family makes this time of year special to so many people.
