Here are some of the festive treats students at our school enjoy during the holiday season and what makes them so meaningful.
Freshman Mary Robakowski loves making sugar cookies during Christmas. “They are usually either the Pillsbury ones with the cute little pictures on them, just regular sugar cookie dough, or we decorate pre-made ones!” she says. The process is about more than just baking; it’s a family tradition. “I always make these with my mom and older brother. It’s delicious, fun to make, and great time to bond with family,” Robakowski adds. Pairing sugar cookies with eggnog is her favorite way to enjoy this classic holiday dessert.
Junior Lena Yaussy’s go-to holiday treat is no-bake cookies. The simplicity of this dessert doesn’t take away from its significance. “Making these cookies reminds me of family time,” Yaussy shares. She enjoys preparing them with her sister, carrying on a sweet holiday tradition.
Senior Veronica Marita spends her Christmas baking a variety of Christmas cookies with her sister. “It’s about spending time with my family and having fun,” she explains. Another staple in her household is pumpkin pie, a comforting dessert that rounds out their holiday celebrations.
For Senior Lilah Reasor, the holidays wouldn’t be complete without Raspberry Pretzel Dessert. “My grandma made it, and my mom makes it, so we make it almost every year,” Reasor says. Preparing this unique combination of salty and sweet with her mom has become a cherished family tradition. She also enjoys other festive desserts like raspberry or apple pie.
Holiday desserts vary widely depending on traditions and celebrations. While Christmas cookies, pies, and no-bake treats dominate the season for many, desserts like fruitcakes, Yule logs, and gingerbread houses are also popular. Each dessert tells a story—of family, heritage, and the joy of coming together during this magical time of year.
