The Bees Varsity Bowling Team has been striking out the competition this season, with an impressive record of 3-0 so far. More than just a team of athletes, the group thrives on camaraderie, shared goals, and a supportive atmosphere. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what makes the bowling team an integral part of our school community.
For senior Ryan Joseph Stewart, bowling is a mix of fun and determination. “To have oodles of fun. To win lots of games. I’ve been doing lots of meditating lately and manifesting,” Stewart shares, giving insight into the mindset that keeps the team motivated. The team bonds over unique traditions like recognizing weekly high scores and hosting a festive secret Santa exchange. “I hope I get Fortnite V-Bucks!” Stewart jokes, highlighting the lighthearted side of their bowling grind.
Music also plays a big role in the team dynamic, with pre-game bus rides filled with the sounds of Weezer, pumping up the players for their next match.
Senior Lyla Doucette joined the team after hearing good things and has found it to be a great decision. “The team dynamic is very supportive and inclusive, which is great for me since I’m new and still learning,” she says. Her personal goal is to consistently bowl above 8s and 9s, and she’s putting in the effort to make that happen through dedicated practice.
Senior Julia Stephan emphasizes the encouragement that flows through the team. “Everyone is really nice, and we all encourage each other to do better,” she explains. Stephan is aiming high this season, working to achieve a 150 average and breaking her personal record of 200.
For sophomore Zachary Kuscevic, bowling has always been part of life. After participating in a summer league, he became more serious about the sport. Now, his goal is to be the best on the team, and he’s putting in the hard work to get there. “Sometimes we synchronize our breathing—it gets us all on the same page,” Kuscevic shares, highlighting the team’s focus and unity. The team’s next big tournament comes in January during the MLK Day Tournament. “I have a dream that we will win!” Stewart says with confidence.
The Bees Varsity Bowling Team isn’t just about competition—it’s about community. Whether you’re a seasoned bowler or a complete beginner, this team has a place for everyone. As Doucette says, “Even if you are new, it’s a very supportive and fun environment where you will learn a lot.”
So, if you’re thinking about joining next season, take it from Kuscevic: “If you like bowling, do it. It’s not weird.”
Good luck to the Bees as they roll toward more victories this season!
