The annual National Honors Society induction ceremony will take place on December 13, 2024 in the BBHHS Auditorium in order to recognize students who have demonstrated acts of service, character, leadership, and scholarship.
NHS President, Talah Alalao was motivated to earn a leadership position in the National Honors Society due to her commitment to improving our school. Originally, Alalao did not think she could be president, but with the encouragement of other members and NHS advisor Mrs. Williams, she decided to run and would go on to eventually win the presidency. Alalao says, “Being NHS president allows me to contribute to motivating my peers to maintain the 4 pillars of the NHS that have strong value to me.” Alalao is looking forward to inducting and working with new members in the remainder of the school year.
NHS Vice President, Kasaundra Pindor finds that NHS “positively reinforces the importance of not only maintaining good grades through high school but also highlights important things like volunteering.” This organization is incredibly important and encourages students to reach their fullest potential both academically and socially, and it’s an honor to be inducted.
The faculty speaker is the most popular part of the ceremony, with students consistently citing it as their favorite aspect of the entire induction. Pindor loves the faculty speaker because “they give some insight about their life that as a student I would have never known.” Will Roderick, senior NHS member, specifically enjoyed Mr. Rundo’s speech at last year’s induction ceremony.
In order for the ceremony to be successful, The National Honors Society enlists a handful of members to perform different jobs leading up to and at the ceremony. Mrs. Owens, the NHS Staff Advisor, explains the extent of the team effort involved in organizing the ceremony. “There are several student led committees that ensure all goes smoothly for induction. The committees include greeters, tapping, flowers, typing and assembling, stage set up and tear down, tech, and reading current names. Additionally, there are 4 volunteer speakers who address the 4 pillars of NHS and the 5 officers also have very important roles.”
Donald Karpowicz, Junior, will be inducted at the ceremony and is excited to be a part of NHS. Karpowicz says “I feel like it’s an opportunity for me and my fellow classmates to be recognized for their hard work. I think a lot of our work goes unnoticed and having a ceremony where our family and peers celebrate our accomplishments is really exciting!”
The National Honor Society induction ceremony on December 13 will honor students who excel in service, leadership, character, and scholarship.
