The BBHHS boys golf team had an impressive season filled with personal and team accomplishments that reflect their hard work and commitment. Led by coaches Dawn Ferrante and Greg Roderick (affectionately known as G-Rod), the team saw significant improvements and enjoyed several highlights that made the season memorable, including varsity having an amazing record of 10-1!
Coach Roderick reflected on the season’s key moments, sharing, “Winning one of the Suburban tournaments was definitely a highlight. Also, as a team, winning a tournament at Windmill Lakes [with a score of 316] and then advancing to districts as a team were big achievements. Plus, Leo Carey (Junior) advancing to the state tournament as an individual was an incredible accomplishment.” These milestones showcase the level of talent and teamwork that the boys displayed throughout the season.
In addition to these high points, Ferrante emphasized the overall growth of the players, particularly those on the JV squad. “I see a lot of improvement in JV because, a lot of times, they just haven’t played a lot. Playing every day improves their game, the way they look at the game, their demeanor, and their understanding of golf courses,” she explained. Roderick highlighted how the experience of playing daily translates to better performance and growth not just over the season but from year to year. “It’s been really fun to watch. A lot of guys have really worked hard all year round, and it really pays dividends during the season,” he added.
One of the most rewarding aspects of coaching, according to Ferrante, is seeing the long-term improvement of players. “From year to year, the players improve, and that’s been a joy to witness. It’s more of a year-to-year kind of improvement versus just within the two months of the season,” she said. For those who excel at the JV level, their continued dedication often leads to significant progress when they return for the next season, building a stronger foundation for the team’s future.
Looking ahead, Coach Roderick has high aspirations for the team. “The goal is definitely to advance to districts again and this time make a good run at trying to get to states,” he stated, expressing his confidence in the team’s potential. The dedication of the players has not gone unnoticed, with Roderick praising their commitment to the sport: “They’re really very respectable, very dedicated to the sport. They seem to want to learn and get better.”
With strong leadership, a dedicated group of players, and notable accomplishments under their belts, the BBHHS boys golf team has much to be proud of this season. As they continue to improve and set their sights on even greater achievements, there’s no doubt they’ll continue to make their school proud.
