The night ended with a bang on September 19, 2024 when students from all different backgrounds gathered to put on a show for the Brecksville Broadview-Heights community.
This year’s Homecoming Parade started at 7 p.m. at Hilton Elementary and ended soon after near the Board of Education Office.
After 20 years being a big part of the music department, Band Director Steve Cocchiola led the parade with the BBHHS band.
“I think the parade is fun, I mean it’s tradition of course,” says Cocchiola. “Looking from a band aspect it links all of the bands from the past, and the future together, because we’ve all experienced the homecoming parade. With pregame and some of our homecoming traditions, that’s the thing that no matter what the makeup of the band is, or what the uniforms look like, and what’s going on in the world, that’s our common connective tissue.”
The band this year has faced a lot of interesting changes, including the influx of new members.
“People who want to join band are really cool, because you get all kinds of reasons for why they’re doing it,” says Cocchiola.
After so many seniors graduating last year, many sections were left short on members which encouraged many people, of all grades, to join.
“A lot of them that are new this year are also in orchestra, choir, or have piano background, so it’s not a complete fish out of water,” says Cocchiola. “The biggest thing we’ve wanted them to do is experience it and have fun, but also to make sure that marching wise they’re in their right spot, so not only do they not get hurt, but neither does anybody else.”
Last Thursday’s Homecoming extravaganza went off with a bang, showcasing all of BBHHS’s fall sports and put everyone in a Homecoming mood.
Homecoming Court, Colin Kern, Jimmy Schneider, Ethan Palgut, Riley Mcpherson, Kasaundra Pindor, Katie Delahunty, Skylar Speeth, and Mallorie Kostyack, each road in on their own cars getting a chance to say hello to the crowd and even throw candy for the little ones in attendance.
These cars and other floats all brought the Brecksville Broadview-Heights community together for the night. Parents and children came to watch the high school students go by, as well as family and friends of those marching.
The following Friday was the much anticipated Homecoming football game against Wadsworth, and per the occasion, each grade level’s student government took the chance to sport themed floats such as hunters or a BBQ full of people who wanted to “Grill the Grizzlies.”
